What is a Q&A Viva Assignment?

A structured oral assessment for your entire class. Students answer the same questions, can optionally be linked to an LMS assignment, and you review submissions at your convenience. Ideal for post-submission reflections, formative checks, or adding oral components to written work.

The Creation Wizard

Watch the wizard in action. This shows configuring viva settings and adding questions (Steps 3-4).

Step 1: Details

Set your viva title and description. If you launched from an LMS assignment, these auto-fill from your LMS data. A live preview shows exactly what students will see before starting.

LMS Integration Features

When you launch from an LMS assignment (Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle):

  • Title, description, and due date auto-fill from the LMS
  • Optionally require students to submit to the LMS assignment before the viva unlocks
  • Students can view their LMS submission during the viva (if enabled)
  • AI can generate questions based on student submissions (if enabled by admin)
  • Blackboard Learn Ultra: Fetch course files via REST API to use as context cards
  • Deep linking injects the viva link directly into the LMS assignment

Context cards fetched from your LMS course are never sent to AI. They are purely for student reference during the viva.
